Personal Projects Gallybagger
« Personal Projects
gallybagger (plural gallybaggers (Isle of Wight) A scarecrow.

An ongoing project to document the rapidly disappearing scarecrow. These guardians of the British landscape were once a commonplace site in our fields however as farming methods change their use is ever decreasing. These scarecrows are not from the sterilised world of the village festival but ‘working’ scarecrows, whose history goes back hundreds of years. Today’s scarecrows range from the dapper to the downright menacing. It’s this often sinister almost other worldly feeling they create that's hard to ignore.

The scarecrow is still ‘alive’ and flourishing on some farms…they maybe endangered but they’re not extinct yet.
